Arrival

There is no road to Te Rawa.

Wilson Bay is halfway along Te Hoiere / Pelorus Sound, between Havelock and the open water of Cook Strait. You come by boat, and the last part of the journey is the start of the stay.

Approaching the lodge along the jetty

Travel by road to Havelock, a small town on State Highway 6 between Blenheim and Nelson. From the marina, the rest of the trip is on the water.

Most visitors come through Nelson, Picton or Blenheim, each less than an hour’s drive from Havelock. Arrange the boat when you book, so someone is expecting you at the wharf.

Water taxi

A water taxi from Havelock is the simplest way in. Two local services people use:

Mail boat

The Pelorus mail boat is an easy, unhurried crossing. It runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and on Saturday as well in summer.

Transfers to Te Rawa are $55 a person each way. Te Rawa is in Zone 3. The boat leaves Havelock at 10:00am and reaches the lodge around lunchtime. Coming back, you are usually in Havelock between 4:30pm and 5:00pm.

Charter

Havelock has boats for charter, with a skipper if you would rather not drive. People often use Bow to Stern, Pelorus Tours, or Compass Charters.

Your own boat

Come alongside the wharf and we will show you where to tie up. Moorings are free for guests staying in the rooms, and $35 a night if you are staying on the boat. In busy weeks, book ahead. Guests in the rooms have first claim on the moorings.

Helicopter

From Picton, Blenheim and the rest of Marlborough, Coast to Coast Helicopters can bring you straight to the lodge.

Plane

Pelorus Air is a short, beautiful way in from the North Island. They fly from Wellington or the Kāpiti Coast in about 20 minutes, to a nearby airstrip. From there it is a seven-minute boat ride to the lodge.
