The Lodge at Te Rawa is now open with live music, great food, fantastic coffee and super friendly new hosts.
Rob and Anne Brabazon and their wee dog Bodie arrived from Dubai in August this year and immediately started on the renovations to the restaurant, bar and apartments at Te Rawa. With almost no experience in the hospitality business, Rob and Anne have surprised themselves by finishing the renovations and having the new Lodge at Te Rawa open for lunch and accommodation in time for the arrival of the new Pelorus Mailboat and the hungry and thirsty passengers who visit them every day.
A Scot and a Kiwi, Rob and Anne met in Dubai where they both lived and worked for 20 years, before deciding to ‘retire’ to the Marlborough Sounds. But after visiting Te Rawa in March and chatting with the friendly local people in Havelock and the Sounds, they left realizing that they weren’t quite ready for retirement yet and that Te Rawa was the place they really wanted to be.
8 months and 826 packing boxes later – the Lodge at Te Rawa is open with an in-house musician who plays every day and a growing number of ‘locals’ who are dropping in on their boats for a relaxed lunch and the very best coffee in the sounds. Yes, the Lodge at Te Rawa also has a great coffee and ice-cream shop with a state of the art coffee machine and a trained Barista on hand to make the best coffee you will taste anywhere in the Sounds. There is also a second hand book shop where you can buy or exchange books to read on the boat trip home.
The licensed restaurant is now open from 11:00am – 11:00pm every day. The coffee shop is open from 09:00 – 19:00 every day. There is petrol available on the wharf for passing boats, and beautiful apartments for those who understand that a few hours in this idyllic setting is never going to be enough. It’s time to get away from it all and enjoy the very warm hospitality of this lovely couple in the gorgeous but unpretentious surroundings of the The Lodge at Te Rawa
